Pause

28 07 2009

This post is set aside for the new series at FBC, “Selah:pause.praise.lift up.”. On this post you can respond with comments about the series and how you are taking personal moments of selah throughout your week. Be sure to check back and see how God is moving in our worship. Remember to move beyond the walls of the church in our worship and make it a lifestyle. As Romans 12:1 (MSG) puts it: So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.

Selah: pause, praise, lift up

Starting August 2nd, FBC will be bringing a 5 week series on worship! The series will be called Selah. Selah is found numerous times in the Psalms and also in Habakkuk. Selah means to pause, praise or lift up. We are ecnouraging you to life a life of Selah. Throughout the week we should be worshiping with our lives and not just on sundays. This is the way the Message puts it in Romans 12:1 – So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

I am so pumped for this. It is going to be quite different. First of all…I am preaching on August 2nd! Don’t be scared…God is moving…I can feel it. Pastor Gerten and Kris will both be preaching and we, as a church body, have the opportunity to share our thoughts on worship as well. “How?”, you might ask. We are going to be converting the youth room into an art gallery. Yes! That’s right. The week of August 23 – 30 the youth room will be open for anyone who wants to bring in their “art” for the Lord.

Why did you just ” ” the word art. Because we limit our definition of art and especially worship. We want to open up the youth room to anything from sewing to wood work to short stories! The best part is that others can worship through your worship. The youth room will be open for people to come in and check out what draws other into worship and then find themselves drawn in as well.

On August 30th we will celebrate what God is doing in worship! It is going to be great. It will be explained in more detail during the series as well! Get excited!

July Newsletter Article

1 07 2009

In July we celebrate freedom and independence. It has been talked often in church that we have freedom in our worship. Each Sunday should be a celebration for us as a body. We are celebrating our freedom in Christ! Our worship should reflect that as well. It does not end in the walls of the church but should explode beyond the walls each Sunday into our own individual moments of worship with God. Remember to prepare your heart for corporate worship this week. Also come expecting God to move in our hearts through worship and the Word and also remember that we are to worship in truth. Analyze what we are singing sand proclaiming to the Lord.

Listed below are the worship scriptures for the month of July. Please read through the scriptures before each Sunday and prepare your hearts and minds for worship.

July 5 – 1 Chronicles 16:8-10 (Today’s New International Version)
Give praise to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

July 12 – Psalm 18:46 (Today’s New International Version)
The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!

July 19 – Psalm 86:11-13 (Today’s New International Version)
Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths,
from the realm of the dead.
