Passion

So i have the opportunity to teach the youth group. I started last week with an introduction to what the word passion means. This week i will be speaking on how to live a life of passion. As i started working on this a few weeks ago i realized that God is doing a work in me on having a life of passion. For too long i have coasted through my Christian life without having a passion behind it. Don’t get me wrong, I love God and live for Him i just did not do as passionately as i could. Anyways, as i prepared for the first week i realized that passion is a hard word to define. So i let the smart people do it for me. The definition i received was

Passion is defined as:

-strong and barely controllable emotion.

-an outburst of such emotion.
-intense sexual love.
-an intense enthusiasm for something.

So i read these definitions and thought to myself Jesus is the most passionate person to ever walk the earth so each of these definitions should fit perfectly for him. I got through the first two fairly easily by applying these definitions with John 11:17-37 and Matthew 2:12-17. Then i got to the third definition and was like whoops that cant work. So i started to pray and God revealed this to me. So i would like to share it with everyone. God has the most amount of sexual love for us out of anyone. I know most people automatically are thinking God has sexual love? What are you talking about willis? Well, lets search this a bit deeper. Our culture has skewed the word sex. To us sex is the act of sexual relations but if we look at the root word of sex we find it something completely opposite. The word sex came from the word secare which means to sever, to amputate, or to disconnect from the whole. (BY THE WAY I GOT ALL OF THIS INFORMATION FROM ROB BELL’S BOOK, “SEX GOD”) So the word sex is not really about the union of two people in a sexual act. “Our sexuality, then, has two dimensions. First, our sexuality is our awareness of how profoundly we’re severed and cut off and disconnected. Second, our sexuality is all of the ways we go about trying to reconnect.” So when we look at this new definition we find how Jesus can have sexual love for us. Once again i shall explain it further. The trinitarian God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and this concept alone is hard to understand but we all have a basic understanding it. By the Son (Jesus) coming to earth he fulfills the first dimenstion of sexual love. He was separated and cut off from the Father when he hung on the cross and bore the weight of our sins. So the three in one was now separate and disconnected. Then with his death and resurrection we find that he fulfills the second dimension in the most profound way possible. He reconnects with the father and holy spirit and once again becomes three in one. So his death was the effort for all of us to be able to reconnect with God as a whole. And we now have nothing to separate us from God because of the Holy Spirit being sent to us which is the ultimate connection. I know this is a bit confusing but if we really think about it, God has the most intense sexual love for us that has ever been. It blew my mind and once again open a door of how much God loves me to my mind. I hope it will do the same for you.
